The 1966 Formula 1 season saw completely new engine regulations with twice the capacity of the 1.5 litre cars used so far and attracted new teams and engine manufacturers alike. Jack Brabham had chosen the safe way and - together with his friend Ron Tauranac - had implanted an Australian Repco V8 engine in his new BT19 chassis. The BT in BrabhamÛs F1 cars is built from the first letters of these two Australian friends by the way. With just 308 hp the Repco V8 was certainly the weakest power plant among the new 3-litre engine designs but obviously the most reliable.

When Jack Brabham won the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring on August 7th of 1966, 44 seconds ahead of John SurteesÛ Cooper and Cooper team mate Jochen Rindt it was the impressing fourth victory in a row after the French, British and Dutch Grand Prix for the Australian. With just three rounds left nobody was able to prevent Jack Brabham from winning his 3rd Formula 1 World Championship title after 1959 and 1960. In the order of the German podium Brabham, Surtees and Rindt were on top of the final ranking in 1966 as well.
